S.H.O.P - SUPPORT + SUPPLIES + SEX WORK ALLIES

Post by admin » Sun Apr 08, 2018 4:08 am

S.H.O.P. exists to advocate for the human rights of sex workers.
We know that there are as many different lived experiences in sex work as there are sex workers. We firmly believe that sex workers are the experts of their own lives, and everything we do is rooted in that philosophy.
We serve women for whom sex work is an occupation; we also serve women who are in the industry not by choice, who are wishing to exit. We support everyone who identifies as a current or former sex worker, regardless of industry sector area – this means that we are here for dancers, street level workers, in and out call workers, web cam workers, phone workers, independent escorts, those who work in massage parlors, and more.
S.H.O.P. is a proud member of the Canadian Alliance for Sex Work Law Reform. We believe that decriminalization is the first step towards access to human and labour rights and stigma reduction for sex workers.
In partnership with the NL Sexual Assault and Prevention Centre, we operate the Warn Other Workers (WOW) line, an anonymous, 24/7 toll-free phone line that sex workers can call to share information about assaults or get direct support from a crisis line volunteer. Call WOW on 1-800-726-2743 from anywhere in the province.
S.H.O.P. believes in:
the value of sex workers and their self determination
the power of harm reduction
the pursuit of social justice

not that this affects me (I'm on the hobbyist side of the interactions), but is it just "women" workers that SHOP helps,
if not, then I think a tweak to your message should be made (considering both men and trans workers do provide services).
I'm well-aware it's mostly women though (but, you know, inclusion).

Keep up the good fight SHOP!

Hi there,

As a program run out of the St. John's Status of Women Council and Women's Centre, our mandate is to serve adult women (recognizing trans women), however we don't turn anyone away. We have connected with men and non-binary folks and will always offer the support we can to all current and former sex workers across NL. In the coming years, as we move towards becoming our own independent organization we will continue to move towards a mandate that works for all sex workers.

Thanks!
